Niskayuna police have identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred earlier this month as 60-year-old Heidi Hoffman from Watervliet. The tragic incident took place on December 10 when Hoffman's vehicle collided with a tree on River Road near Whitmyer Drive around 7:03 a.m. Bystanders managed to pull Hoffman from the car before it caught fire, but she was later pronounced dead at Ellis Hospital.

Hoffman, who worked in records keeping at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, was the only occupant of the vehicle. She was remembered in her obituary as a "lifelong learner" with a passion for foreign languages, quilting, painting, and music, particularly as a fan of the Grateful Dead. She was also a mother of three and had a deep love for animals.

The Niskayuna Police Department, along with the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the cause of the crash. They urge anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact Detective Hisham Khafaga at 518-386-4500 ext. 4580.

News10, Times Union, and Daily Gazette reported on the incident.
