With many people expected to travel during the holiday season, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and New York State Police (NYSP) are offering safety tips for drivers. They emphasize the importance of having a plan for a safe ride home if you plan to drink. The agencies also remind drivers to remove snow from their vehicles to prevent it from obstructing views.

The DMV and NYSP are promoting the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, which runs until January 1. During this time, there will be increased patrols to catch impaired drivers. Mark J.F. Schroeder, DMV Commissioner, stated, "If you plan to drink, don’t drive. Be mindful that more people will be on the roads, so take your time and stay within the speed limit."

For those traveling in snowy conditions, it is crucial to clear snow from all windows, mirrors, and the roof of the vehicle. This ensures that snow does not slide down and block the driver's view or fall off and obscure other motorists' views. Real-time road conditions can be checked by dialing 511 or visiting 511NY.org.
