Final preparations are underway at the Capital City Rescue Mission in Albany, New York, for their annual Christmas Day meal. The mission plans to serve a festive feast to over 3,000 people, including 1,600 pounds of ham, 810 pounds of yams, 800 pounds of vegetables, and 600 pounds of potatoes and stuffing. The meal will be available from noon until 2 p.m. on Christmas Day, with options for both dine-in and take-home meals.

The mission, located at 259 South Pearl Street, has been serving the Albany community since 1949. According to CBS 6 Albany, Executive Director Perry Jones emphasized the importance of providing a welcoming environment for those in need during the holidays. "They have nowhere to go, and so they’re here with us, and we want to make it a festive day," he said.

In addition to the meal, families will have the opportunity to pick out Christmas gifts from the mission's toy closet. Shelly Wood, Community Liaison at the mission, stated that all are welcome to join the celebration, whether to sit and enjoy a meal or to take it home.

The mission serves more than 750 meals daily to the community, with Christmas being one of the biggest meals of the year. Volunteers play a crucial role in preparing and serving these meals, sharing love and hope with those who might have gone days without food. Capital City Rescue Mission encourages community members to volunteer and support their efforts.
