Motorists in the Capital Region are experiencing a slight increase in gas prices, according to AAA. The average price for a gallon of regular fuel is now $3.13, marking a two-cent increase from last week. Despite this rise, prices are still three cents lower than they were a month ago and 40 cents less than the same time last year.

The state average currently stands at $3.11, while the national average is slightly higher at $3.16. According to AAA, the national average has seen a three-cent increase since last Thursday (March 27), coinciding with the spring break travel season.

Increased demand and fluctuating oil prices are contributing factors to the rise in gas prices. As reported by AAA East Central, gasoline demand has increased from 8.08 million barrels per day to 8.30 million, while gasoline production has decreased, averaging 9.2 million barrels daily. Despite the recent rise, easing oil costs and low domestic demand have helped to slightly lower pump prices nationally.

Motorists are advised to stay informed about price changes and consider fuel-efficient practices to manage expenses as fuel costs continue to fluctuate.
