In Troy, former Northville High School girls basketball coach Jim Zullo has pleaded not guilty to second-degree harassment charges following an incident where he allegedly pulled a player's ponytail. The incident occurred after Northville's loss in the state championship game at Hudson Valley Community College.

Footage from the game showed Zullo pulling senior player Hailey Monroe's hair as the team awaited their medals. The video quickly went viral, leading to Zullo's dismissal from his coaching position and a citation for harassment. According to NEWS10, Zullo issued an apology, expressing deep regret for his actions and apologizing to Monroe, her family, and the Northville community.

The charge of second-degree harassment is a violation in New York, not a criminal offense. It involves actions intended to harass, annoy, or alarm another person through physical contact. The Times Union reported that a judge in Troy City Court has issued an order of protection, preventing Zullo from contacting Monroe.

Zullo, who came out of retirement to coach the Northville team, has a long history in coaching, including a successful career with Shenendehowa boys' basketball. The Northville Central School District expressed their disapproval of Zullo's behavior, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining a respectful and safe environment for student-athletes. USA Today noted that the incident has overshadowed the achievements of the student-athletes throughout the season.
