An investigation is underway following a fatal shooting outside the New York State Police barracks in Malta, Saratoga County. On Wednesday (April 9), 69-year-old David Levine opened fire with a high-powered rifle outside the barracks on Route 9. Troopers inside the building responded to the gunfire and instructed Levine to drop his weapon. When he refused and pointed the gun at them, troopers returned fire, fatally wounding him. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
According to New York State Police, Levine fired several rounds into the occupied barracks. Body-worn cameras captured the incident, but the footage has not been released due to the ongoing investigation. The New York State Attorney General’s Office has been notified and responded to the scene.
State Route 9 was temporarily closed in both directions but has since reopened. The investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
