Protests against the Trump administration's policies took place on Saturday (April 19) in Albany, Troy, and Saratoga as part of the "50-50-1" movement. The movement, which stands for 50 states, 50 protests, one movement, aims to oppose President Trump's policies on tariffs, deportation, and Medicare, as well as his association with Elon Musk. Demonstrators also criticized recent comments by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about autism, which many believe contradict established medical research.
According to CBS6 Albany, protesters voiced concerns about the impact of Trump's deportation policies on immigrant communities. Liz Paquale, a resident of Elizaville, expressed her worries, saying, "There are so many people in my neighborhood who are here waiting to become citizens. Their court dates are well in advance of this moment. And I'm afraid that they are in trouble."
The protests were part of a larger nationwide movement against what participants see as threats to democratic ideals. ABC27 reported that similar demonstrations occurred across the country, including in New York City, Washington, D.C., and other major cities. Protesters carried signs and banners expressing solidarity with immigrants and opposition to Trump's policies.
The protests also addressed RFK Jr.'s comments on autism. CNN noted that RFK Jr. claimed rising autism rates are a "preventable" crisis, a statement that has been met with skepticism by medical professionals.
Organizers of the "50-50-1" movement called on lawmakers to take action against President Trump's policies, urging people to continue voicing their concerns and fighting for change.
