Former Glens Falls High School basketball star Jimmer Fredette has announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 36. Fredette, who gained national fame during his college career at Brigham Young University (BYU), shared the news on Instagram, reflecting on how the game has shaped his life and expressing gratitude for the experiences it brought him.

Fredette's basketball journey began in Glens Falls and took him to BYU, where he became a household name. He led the nation in scoring during the 2010-11 season, averaging 28.9 points per game, and earned National Player of the Year honors. His stellar college career included four NCAA tournament appearances and a Sweet 16 run, making him a national sensation.

Fredette was selected as the No. 10 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks and was traded to the Sacramento Kings. He played in the NBA for several teams, including the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, and New York Knicks, before moving overseas. In China, he found success with the Shanghai Sharks, where he was named the Chinese Basketball Association's International MVP in 2017.

In recent years, Fredette transitioned to 3x3 basketball, representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Unfortunately, his Olympic journey was cut short due to an adductor injury, but he had already made a significant impact by helping the team win gold at the 2022 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup and silver at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Fredette expressed his gratitude for the game, saying, "Basketball has taken me all around this world...
