A parolee, Juan Rivera, 26, is back in custody following his arrest for the alleged murder of Kevin Hall, 47, in Troy. The incident occurred on Monday (April 21) at a residence on Third Street, where police responded to reports of an assault around 7:45 a.m. Officers found Hall with stab wounds; he later died at a local hospital.

Rivera, who was released from the Wende Correctional Facility on March 27 after serving time for a second-degree assault conviction, was identified as a suspect in the murder. According to Times Union, Rivera and Hall were familiar with each other and reportedly had a dispute over property that escalated, resulting in the fatal stabbing.

Troy Police detectives located Rivera at a hotel in Latham and arrested him around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. He was charged with second-degree murder and arraigned in Troy City Court, where he was remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail. During his court appearance, Rivera reported chest pains and requested medical attention.

The CBS6 Albany reports that Rivera had a prior arrest in 2016 for possession of homemade explosives. The police continue to investigate the case, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Troy Police Department.
