He argues that these cuts would disproportionately affect his district, particularly those relying on Medicaid and food assistance programs.
In response to Rep. Elise Stefanik's request for a Department of Education investigation into the Saratoga Springs City School District's Title IX compliance, Tonko defended the district's commitment to inclusivity. He praised the school board's resolution to support transgender and immigrant students, emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusion in education.
