Construction has begun on a new roundabout at the intersection of State Route 29, Rowland Street, and Petrified Sea Gardens Road in Milton. The $3.4 million project aims to improve traffic flow and enhance safety in Saratoga County, a key gateway to Saratoga Springs. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the project, emphasizing its role in transforming infrastructure and improving travel efficiency in the state. The roundabout will replace the existing four-way intersection, reducing congestion and potential vehicle conflicts.

According to Governor Hochul, "New Yorkers need the best and safest roads so they can travel to work, visit their families, and shop for leisure." The roundabout is expected to be in its final stages by early June, with substantial completion anticipated by late June, ensuring minimal impact on travel to the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has closed a portion of Rowland Street for construction, with traffic detours in place. The project is funded by federal and state sources, including $1 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law.

Roundabouts are designed to maximize safety and minimize congestion, allowing for smoother traffic flow and reducing the severity of crashes. The new roundabout will eliminate the need for traffic signals and contribute to an aesthetically pleasing landscape. As NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez stated, "The transformation of this intersection will reduce vehicle congestion along a vital travel corridor in Saratoga County."
