Schenectady police are actively investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday (April 24) on Hamburg Street. Officers responded to a call about a person with a weapon at approximately 12:50 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased male with an apparent gunshot wound inside a home at 1834 Hamburg Street. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

The area around the scene was cordoned off with crime scene tape, and Hamburg Street was temporarily closed from Abbotsford Road to Amsterdam Avenue. This incident marks the second homicide in Schenectady within 24 hours, following the shooting of Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. on Van Vranken Avenue the previous day.

Local residents expressed concern over the recent violence. Kristen Canton, a neighbor, noted the disruption caused by the police presence, saying, "I was coming home from work and noticed I had to take a detour." Another resident, Ron Thackery, shared his unease, stating, "There are crazy people all over. I can’t stop them."

The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Schenectady Police Department’s Detective Division at 518-382-5245 or the Tips Line at 518-788-6566. As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the man's death.
