Colonie police are alerting residents about a rise in thefts from vehicles in several neighborhoods. The affected areas are primarily off Osborne Road, between Albany Shaker Road and Central Avenue, as well as Traditional Lane off Albany Shaker Road. The police department has launched the "Operation Light It Up" initiative, encouraging residents to turn on exterior lights, park in well-lit areas, and ensure vehicles are locked.

According to NEWS10 ABC, there have been 29 break-ins reported this year, a decrease from 72 at the same time last year. Despite the reduction, police are urging vigilance. Residents are advised to hide valuables out of sight and report any suspicious activity to the Colonie Police Department by calling 518-783-2811 or 911.

The WNYT reports that the police are emphasizing the importance of community awareness and cooperation in preventing further incidents. The department's efforts aim to maintain the downward trend in thefts and enhance neighborhood safety.
