Gas prices across the Capital Region remain stable, with the current average for a gallon of regular fuel at $3.05, according to Triple A. This price is unchanged from last week and is five cents lower than last month. The state average is slightly higher at $3.09, while the national average stands at $3.13.
The stability in prices comes despite typical seasonal fluctuations. According to AAA, gas demand has decreased between spring and summer, contributing to a drop in the national average by three cents to $3.15. Additionally, OPEC+ plans to increase oil production in June, which could lead to further price reductions.
AAA Newsroom reports that the national average is nearly 49 cents less than it was a year ago. Meanwhile, Automotive Fleet notes that while there have been slight regional fluctuations, the overall national average remains largely unchanged. The West Coast experienced a decline of about four cents, while the Midwest and Gulf Coast saw a similar increase.
Looking ahead, as OPEC+ increases output and refinery maintenance concludes, there is potential for the national average to fall below $3 per gallon, offering some relief to drivers this summer.
