Authorities are investigating a fatal crash involving a 17-year-old girl who died after a dirt bike accident in Schenectady's Central Park on Friday night (May 16). The teenager reportedly struck a chain barrier near Duck Pond Road around 8:49 p.m., according to the Times Union. Emergency responders treated her at the scene before transporting her to Ellis Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The Schenectady Police Department and the Schenectady County Sheriff's Crash Reconstruction Team are conducting the investigation. The victim's name has not been released, and authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the police.
The use of dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on city streets and in public parks has been banned in Schenectady since 2021. City officials previously described these vehicles as "dangerous" and more suited for rural areas. The investigation remains ongoing, with officials working to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tragic accident.
