The Saratoga County Animal Shelter in Ballston Spa is set to receive a $500,000 grant from the state to install a new heating and cooling system. This funding is part of over $10 million awarded to 30 animal care organizations across New York through the seventh round of the New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the grants, which aim to support construction, renovation, and expansion projects that enhance animal care and increase adoptions. Since the program's inception in 2017, more than $38 million has been dedicated to improving animal shelters across the state.
The funding will help shelters like the Saratoga County Animal Shelter improve living spaces for animals, upgrade medical facilities, and make infrastructure improvements. These enhancements are intended to provide better care for animals while they await adoption.
Governor Hochul emphasized the importance of animal shelters, stating, "Animal shelters and humane societies play an enormous role in keeping companion animals safe and well cared for while they await their new families and forever home."
The Companion Animal Capital Fund is the first state program in the nation to fund capital projects for animal shelters. The latest round of funding builds on previous efforts to support New York's animal shelters, with plans for continued funding in the future.
