Authorities have released new details about a fatal stabbing that occurred over the weekend in Clifton Park. Simon Brault, a 20-year-old resident, was fatally stabbed while attempting to break up a fight involving his brother. The incident took place on Beresford Road on Saturday (May 31).
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jaiden Ildefonso, 18, is accused of stabbing Brault. Ildefonso, along with two others, went to Brault's home to confront his brother. Brault was rushed to Albany Medical Center for surgery but later succumbed to his injuries. Ildefonso was arrested on Sunday (June 1) and charged with second-degree murder, a class A-1 felony. He was arraigned before Judge Robert Rybak in Clifton Park Town Court and is being held at the Saratoga County Jail without bail, pending further proceedings.
Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo expressed his condolences to the Brault family, stating, "My heart is heavy for the Brault family and they are in my thoughts and prayers." He also commended the quick apprehension of the suspect by the Sheriff's Office's road patrol and Criminal Investigations Unit.
The Shenendehowa Central School District, where both current and former students were involved, expressed deep sadness over the incident. Superintendent L. Oliver Robinson stated, "This is a tragedy in many proportions. As a school community, we mourn Simon’s death and stand ready to support the families."
