Crash Closes Northbound Lanes of I-87 Near Exit 12 in Malta

An overnight crash involving a tractor-trailer and a line-painting vehicle closed northbound lanes of Interstate 87 near Exit 12 in Malta early Thursday (July 17). According to State Police, the collision occurred around 1 a.m. when the tractor-trailer struck a vehicle belonging to a contractor hired to paint road lines. Both drivers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash initially closed all northbound lanes, but by 7:45 a.m., only the two left lanes remained closed, as reported by the state Department of Transportation’s website 511NY. The cleanup is ongoing, and the right lane is open to traffic.

CBS6 Albany reported that the accident caused significant traffic delays in the area. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes until the lanes are fully reopened.
