A tragic plane crash at Block Island State Airport in Rhode Island claimed the life of Montgomery County legislator Dan Wilson on Wednesday (July 30). Wilson was one of three individuals aboard the private aircraft, which had departed from Albany International Airport. The plane went down during its third landing attempt at the airport.
The pilot, an 87-year-old man from Mechanicville, and the other passenger, a 77-year-old woman from Clifton Park, survived the crash and are expected to recover. The incident has prompted an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to determine the cause of the crash.
According to ABC 33/40, the aircraft was a private plane operated by a flying club. The investigation will examine factors such as the pilot's experience, weather conditions, and runway length.
The community mourns the loss of Wilson, who was known for his dedicated service as a legislator. Further updates on the investigation and any memorial services will be provided as they become available.
