The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced a travel advisory for Washington County, as State Route 196 in Hartford will be closed for approximately six weeks starting Monday (August 4). The closure will take place between Shine Hill Road and North Road to facilitate a culvert replacement project.
During this period, drivers are advised to follow the posted detours, which will direct traffic via Shine Hill Road (County Route 19) and State Route 40 in South Hartford. While local traffic will have access to homes and businesses within the work area, motorists should anticipate delays and plan for extra travel time.
The project, which is weather-dependent, aims to improve infrastructure and ensure road safety. The NYSDOT urges drivers to remain cautious and patient during this period of construction.
News10 ABC reports that the road closure is essential for the replacement of the culvert, a critical component for managing water flow and preventing road erosion.
