A memorial service for Montgomery County lawmaker Dan Wilson, who tragically died in a plane crash, is scheduled for Sunday (August 17) at the Empire State Aerosciences Museum in Glenville. Wilson, aged 76, was aboard an aircraft that departed from Albany International Airport and crashed in Rhode Island on July 30. The other two passengers survived, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
Wilson was a beloved figure in his community, known for his dedication to public service and his passion for aviation. His brother, George Wilson, shared that Dan had a deep love for history and was committed to enhancing the Empire State Aerosciences Museum, where he served as president. "He just turned himself outward, both with community service, government service," George Wilson said, remembering his brother's contributions.
New York Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh praised Wilson's efforts to improve the museum, noting his instrumental role in securing funding and implementing various projects. "He had some very positive developments that he brought under the wing, no pun intended, of that organization," Walsh said, expressing her hope to honor Wilson by naming a part of the museum after him.
The community continues to mourn Wilson's loss while celebrating his legacy of service and dedication. The memorial service will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to pay their respects and remember his impactful life.
