Residents of Schenectady will soon have a new way to pay for parking downtown. The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority has signed a contract with LAZ Parking to manage parking services. This change will allow users to pay for parking using the LAZgo app, which provides a convenient option for on-street and lot parking during the day. Parking remains free from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. and on weekends.

The new system is part of ongoing efforts to improve parking in downtown Schenectady. According to The Daily Gazette, the Metroplex board approved the contract with LAZ Parking, which operates in 639 cities across 44 states. The LAZgo app allows users to scan a QR code or use a "text to pay" option, eliminating the need to download an app. The new system is expected to roll out this fall.

Ray Gillen, chair of the Metroplex board, stated that the new service aims to simplify the parking process for visitors and residents. The Metroplex Development Authority has been managing parking services since 2004 and has continually worked to enhance the downtown parking experience. Recent improvements include resurfacing lots and adding amenities to make parking more accessible and convenient.

Downtown Schenectady offers over 2,300 parking spots, including 11 surface lots and a municipal garage. For more information on parking in downtown Schenectady, visit downtownschenectady.org.
