Seven people were displaced following a house fire early Sunday morning (September 21) in Troy. The fire occurred at a multi-family home on 6th Avenue, with firefighters responding to the scene by 4:15 a.m. The blaze was brought under control in approximately 40 minutes, according to Troy Fire Chief Richard Cellucci. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and firefighters successfully rescued three cats from the home.
The fire, which occurred in a balloon-frame construction house, posed a challenge as the flames traveled through the walls. "It was a balloon-frame construction house, which means there's no fire stops in the walls," Chief Cellucci explained to the Times Union. Emergency crews, including teams from Watervliet and Green Island, remained on the scene until about 7:30 a.m. to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
The building sustained heavy damage but is considered salvageable. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but so far, no evidence suggests it was started with malicious intent. According to CBS6 Albany, the investigation is ongoing, and the community is hopeful for a swift resolution.
