Albany Police have labeled a deadly fire that occurred on October 6 as suspicious. The blaze at 23 Twiller Street claimed the lives of five individuals, including three children aged three, four, and six, and two men aged 47 and 52. The fire broke out around 10:42 a.m., and by the time firefighters arrived, the residence was fully engulfed in flames. Three victims, including a 52-year-old man, a three-year-old girl, and a four-year-old boy, were found inside and later pronounced dead at Albany Medical Center. Two others, a 47-year-old man and a six-year-old girl, were discovered deceased within the home.
The fire also spread to neighboring residences, causing additional damage. Despite the severity of the incident, Albany Police have not disclosed any details regarding why they suspect foul play. The investigation has been handed over to the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. As of Tuesday (October 21), no arrests have been made, and the authorities continue to seek answers.
The community remains on edge as the investigation unfolds. Residents are urged to stay informed through local news outlets for further updates on the case. WNYT reports that the Red Cross is assisting seven people displaced by the fire.
