An 18-year-old from Plainview faces multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing a marked New York State Police cruiser from a repair shop in Davenport on Wednesday (November 5). The vehicle, undergoing service at Accurate Auto and Truck Repair, was taken early in the morning.
State Police were alerted to the burglary around 5:00 a.m. and located the stolen vehicle about an hour later on Interstate 90 in Schodack, Rensselaer County. Troopers arrested the teen without incident. The suspect was arraigned in Schodack Town Court and charged with criminal possession of stolen property, burglary, and grand larceny—all Class D felonies.
The patrol car was equipped with a GPS tracker, a standard feature in State Police vehicles since 2009, which helped officers quickly locate it. According to the Times Union, the teen was taken into custody without any issues and is currently being held as the investigation continues. WKTV reports that no weapons were inside the vehicle at the time of the theft.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional details may be released as the case develops. FingerLakes1.com notes that more charges could be filed as the investigation progresses.
