A car fire in Schenectady on Monday afternoon resulted in significant damage to two buildings, according to the Schenectady Fire Department. Firefighters responded to Duane Avenue shortly after 4:30 p.m., where they found a car fully engulfed in flames between the structures. One building, which was occupied, was evacuated and sustained exterior damage. The other, a vacant building, was fully engulfed in flames, leading to a partial main roof collapse and a complete collapse of a secondary roof. The fire was contained to the vacant building, and no firefighters were injured. However, one civilian was treated for a minor burn at Ellis Hospital and later released.

The vacant building is scheduled for demolition on Tuesday (January 7). The Schenectady Fire Department Investigation Unit is investigating the incident to determine the cause of the fire. The department expressed gratitude to local agencies and mutual aid partners for their assistance.

CBS6 Albany reported that the fire department is working diligently to ensure safety in the area, and the vacant building's demolition will proceed as planned.
