The first round of the NBA Draft went mostly as expected with the Dallas Mavericks selecting Duke phenom Cooper Flagg with the first overall pick. After a tumultuous season plagued with injuries and the very unpopular trade of Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, Mavericks GM Nico Harrison may have just salvaged his job and has definitely given the fans a reason for optimism.
Dan Patrick: “I guess the Mavericks had a good year, would you say? All the backlash, you had all the injuries, Kyrie (Irving) is going to be out for half the year probably, you get A.D. (Anthony Davis), and you got bailed out. The ultimate bail-out probably in NBA history, where it’s like ‘Oh my God, what did we do? No, we’d still do it again, (Luka Dončić) didn’t play any defense.’ And then you end up with Cooper Flagg.”
