On The Bobby Bones Show, a caller named Robin from Indiana sparked a powerful conversation that many listeners could relate to: life after COVID and the struggle to regain a sense of smell.
Robin explained she lost her smell years ago and still couldn’t even detect a litter box, proving something definitely wasn’t right. She asked how Morgan’s recovery efforts were going, since she’s been open about fighting lingering COVID symptoms. Morgan shared that her health has taken a dramatic turn for the better recently. After losing her smell in 2021, it took four years before she started noticing real improvement with her recent lifestyle changes. She’s now about 40 percent recovered in that area, and it’s been one of the toughest symptoms to treat.
So what changed? For the last month and a half, Morgan has followed an intense and disciplined routine focused on detox and healing. That includes a dairy-free, gluten-free diet, red light therapy, infrared sauna sessions, parasite cleanses, and a carefully structured wellness plan. Through medical testing, she also learned she has a genetic variant commonly called the “MTHFR gene,” which can affect how the body processes toxins. In her case, it may have made it harder to fully clear the COVID virus.
Not everyone on the Bobby Bones Show could resist teasing the name of that gene. When Morgan mentioned having a “dirty gene,” the room briefly turned into a comedy club. But beyond the laughs, the results have been undeniable. She says she feels sharper with no more brain fog, sleeps better, no longer deals with daily fatigue, and hasn’t experienced vertigo in months. Her skin has improved, inflammation is down, and she’s even lost 15 pounds during the process.
Bobby asked a fair question: with that much discipline, is it worth the effort just to regain smell? Morgan admitted that if smell were her only symptom, she might not have committed to such a strict plan. But improving her overall health has made the journey worthwhile. Robin, still missing her own sense of smell, said she’s willing to try anything. Morgan agreed to share her wellness routine (right here!) for others dealing with long COVID symptoms and wanting to explore potential options.
Morgan has been doing this cleanse and detox with guidance from an integrative health practitioner named Cara Clark. Morgan's cleanse first started by removing caffeine, alcohol, sugar, dairy, processed foods, and gluten from her diet. She was on a strict regime to eat only whole foods and meals that were meant to be bringing her constant nutrients like smoothies, egg bakes, protein waffles, and hearty soups. As her body went into a reset mode after a few weeks of strict eating habits, she started to incorporate some other methods that help with detoxing the body and reversing inflammation like:
- extended fast (anywhere from 24 to 72 hours)
- red light therapy 12 minutes daily (6 minutes on the face, 6 minutes on the stomach)
- infrared sauna (start at 15 minutes, then work up to 25 minutes daily)
- walk 30 minutes x2 daily (Morgan admits she typically only gets in one, but always shoots for two)
- a specific supplement regime that was tailored to her bloodwork & genetics that assist with detox, drainage, & mineral support
- morning adrenal elixir for stress management
- frequency sound listening (typically listen on walks - the frequency app is great)
Morgan has shared a few posts on Instagram in relation to the cleanse and detox she's been doing for those looking to get more information. But as a reminder, every body is different so it's important to find the things that work best for each individual person with the help of a professional. You can follow her journey here.
