When Seeing Each Other Every Day Makes Hugs Weird

The Bobby Bones Show talked about how it feels strange to hug coworkers when you see them outside of work, especially when you see each other every single day.

Eddie shared that he ran into Mike D at the airport during the break and ended up hugging him, even though they normally sit just a few feet apart at work and never hug there. Eddie admitted it felt weird because the environment was different. In a crowded airport full of strangers, seeing someone familiar made the hug feel natural, even though he didn’t expect it and wasn’t sure Mike D did either. Mike D agreed it was strange and said he couldn’t remember the last time he hugged Eddie before that moment.

Bobby explained that he’s not a big hugger and usually only hugs when it feels meaningful. He brought up that Amy came over to his house and they hugged, likely because it was a different setting and part of a natural greeting. Bobby said it would have felt odd for Amy to hug his wife and then Bobby intentionally not hug her, even though hugging coworkers isn’t something he normally does. Amy confirmed they hugged and said she didn’t think much of it because the environment was different from work. Bobby said it’s not about the person, but more about seeing each other all the time, which makes hugging feel unnecessary unless there’s a reason for it.

The show talked about how holidays might play a role in hugging, especially around Christmas and New Year’s, when people are more likely to hug even coworkers. Eddie agreed and said the timing of the break probably made the airport hug feel more normal. Everyone wondered if the same hug would have happened in August, and Eddie wasn’t sure it would have. Eddie also shared that things got even more awkward after they landed in Austin. They walked together all the way to the rental car area, said goodbye multiple times, and eventually split off without another hug. He said he ended up directing his family a different way just to avoid another long goodbye.
